There have been quite a few rumors about the next gen Xbox coming later this year and the thing that seems to be worrying gamers is the rumours that the new Xbox needs a permanent network connection.
Good news is that it doesn’t!
According to an internal Microsoft e-mail sent to all full-time employees working on the next Xbox, “Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet.” It continues, “There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”
This email also confirms another rumour. The next gen Xbox will have an HMDI input to connect your cable boxes and watch live TV. It is heard that the console will be able to provide TV listings and similar information.
Anyways, there will be lovers and haters for the new console for sure. Good thing that Microsoft probably took care of the “permanent network connection” thing maybe because of repeated media reports. Else, why would they suddenly send mass mailers to their employees, right?
