Flipkart Goes Global With International Credit Card Support

Flipkart, popularly known globally as India’s Amazon, has announced support for international credit cards with the help of Visa’s CyberSource.

Well, Flipkart is not exactly going global but with the introduction of international credit cards, now customers can purchase items on Flipkart and send it to their loved ones in India from anywhere in the world. In short, ordering is now global.

CyberSource will provide fraud management services for Flipkart alongside the company’s own fraud detection system.

“With this strategic initiative, we have now opened up a much larger market for international customers who are increasingly looking to buy and ship gifts/products within India, without compromising on our high focus on online safety and security,” Mekin Maheswari, Flipkart’s GM, Payments and Digital Media, said of the endeavor.

Last year, Flipkart received its Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) 2.0 certification for card processing, allowing it to begin saving card information on its website.

Flipkart has recently raised around $150 million in funding last year. The company is expanding exponentially and profits have currently taken a backseat owing to service expansion and growth. Company executives predict Flipkart to be profitable around 2015.
