Myspace has just revealed a video that teases the future of the once wildly popular social network, now that Justin Timberlake and others have steered it in a new direction. According to the company, the fan and entertainment-focused service is being rebuilt “entirely from scratch.”

As you can see in the teaser below, discovered by Grace Dent and The Financial Times’ Tim Bradshaw, Myspace is debuting a media-focused social network which emphasizes imagery, a static footer navigation bar with a built-in music player and a left-to-right timeline of posts.

Although we’ll have to wait and see if the demoed functionality comes together into a coherent and enjoyable service, there’s no denying that the design shown in the preview looks absolutely gorgeous. This is especially surprising, considering how rough around the edges Myspace has always been. See it for yourself:

We have confirmation that this is official thanks to Myspace’s new teaser page:new.Myspace.com. We have no word as to when this new service will launch, but you might as well leave your email behind and claim a spot — just in case Myspace is somehow able to magically revive the service back from the dead.

Here’s Myspace’s explanation of the upcoming service, which is all about “empowering people to express themselves however they want”:

We’re hard at work building the new Myspace, entirely from scratch. But we’re staying true to our roots in one important way—empowering people to express themselves however they want. So whether you’re a musician, photographer, filmmaker, designer or just a dedicated fan, we’d love for you to be a part of our brand new community.

As the video shows, Myspace has also left behind its atrocious gap-styled logo in favor of something much closer to its roots.

The screenshot below shows just how fan focused the upcoming service will be. There’s no denying the power of celebrities, and if anyone has the connections to build a network that is filled with stars, it’s investor Justin Timberlake (even if he isn’t really Sean Parker).

The new post / update page, which at least looks to be available for entertainers, showcases a sleek and minimalistic design that allows you to attach a song or photo to posts.

As we hinted at above, it will take an insane amount of work, talent, luck, money and timing to genuinely revive Myspace back to its former glory. Honestly, it feels nearly impossible even with today’s teaser in mind. Still…I personally can’t help but hope something comes out of it.

Everybody loves a comeback.
