Shoppingwish.in announces launch of Scandid, India’s first barcode scanning app

Pune, Maharastra – ShoppingWish.in, a price comparison and product discovery portal announced today the launch of Scandid – a fast and convenient barcode scanning based price comparison mobile app, designed exclusively for the Indian market. Scandid is the first app in India whereby users can scan the barcode present on the product box or search by product name and instantly get prices and coupons for millions of products across 150+ online retailers.

Having the ability to compare prices on the go allows shoppers to make effective purchase decisions quickly.  Furthermore when shopping at local stores or malls, shoppers can also show lower online price on their app and ask the salesman for price match. Price matching trend (in the form of offering lower price or freebies) is on the rise as local retailers compete aggressively against online retailers that often have cheaper prices. Scandid also allows for sharing of hot deals or great products through different social networking platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and more. The app supports all UPC, EAN and ISBN barcode formats. iOS version of the app is also under development and will be released in the next few weeks.

Barcode scanning for shopping is very popular in US and Europe markets with apps like Shopsavvy and RedLaser having download numbers in tens of millions. Shoppingwish is bringing the concept to India with Scandid and hopes to help shoppers by empowering them with a tool that can help them get the best deal no matter where they choose to shop – online or offline.

ShoppingWish was founded by Madhur Khandelwal & Sushil Choudhari. Madhur Khandelwal formerly worked with Microsoft and was a part of founding team at TheFind.com, one of the largest shopping search engines in the US. Sushil Choudhari was in the past a cofounder of Dhingana, a popular music-streaming site in India. Shoppingwish raised undisclosed amount of angel funding in May 2012 from prominent angels in Silicon Valley and New York.
