This European startup, which creates software to measure enterprise engineering teams’ performance automatically, is all set to help Indian clients.
Information Technology has come a long way in the half a century that it has evolved in. With this evolution, IT has not only become more efficient but also extremely complicated. Managing huge teams of engineers, assessing their performance, comprehending the results of tasks, it all takes a lot on part of IT leaders before successfully executing a project.

Waydev creates software to measure enterprise engineering teams’ performance automatically, not only optimizing work quality but also giving managers better tools to protect employee well-being and support them as they excel. Waydev has entered the Indian market and are looking forward to working with Indian IT.
India being the topmost offshoring destination for global IT companies, its IT and Business Process Management (BPM) industry’s revenue is estimated at ~US$ 194 billion in FY21, an increase of 2.3% YoY, according to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF).
The Tech Panda spoke to Alex Circei, CEO and Co-founder of Waydev, who is excited at the prospect of working with Indian clients.
We are helping companies that are working with many engineers to understand and to improve the work life of people
“India has a lot of companies that are struggling to understand how teams are working, because they are working with so many engineers. It’s really hard when you have 100-200, or even 1,000-2,000 engineers to look after,” he says.
“And India is the only place in the world where you can find this type of use case. This is why we like the Indian market so much, because we are helping companies that are working with many engineers to understand and to improve the work life of people,” he adds.
From the fourteen-year-old boy who started selling clothes in Bucharest and sold his first software project at the age of sixteen, Cercei has come a long way. Having worked with engineers ever since, he realized the difficulties in finding analytics for software, a struggle for many others like him.
I feel this solution can change the world
That’s when he decided to build Waydev to solve the problem. After launching in 2019, Waydev has been working with clients like TATA, Genpact, and many more.
“I feel this solution can change the world,” he says with confidence.
Waydev analyzes a client’s codebase from Github, Gitlab, and Bitbucket, Azure DevOps to help bring out the best in their engineers’ work.
“We help them change from the old way, where they’re looking manually at the office for the teams, to a new way where everything is automatically aggregated from the tools they are working with,” Cercei explains.
Waydev can get insights into engineering work, providing an understanding of the alignment with business initiatives. Clients can measure organization-level efficiencies and start optimizing their development process.

It can provide a single view of a team’s contributions and work habits by zeroing into daily pull requests each engineer makes as well as their output on a daily basis. This way, a project manager can determine exactly what the team requires to perform better.
Another aspect is comprehending engineering teamwork, spotting bottlenecks in the code review process, and keeping track of code collaboration objectives.
Waydev builds tools customized to the client’s needs, providing accurate data on project costs and custom reports. For example, they can help identify how scope creep and bug fixes influence the way ahead in a project as well as the speed of delivery.
“For executives, we have a feature where they can see the cost of the project, the cost of the feature by deviating all the tickets and integrating the salaries of the engineers. They can see the cost for the specific project. Or we have resource planning, where you can see the amount of unplanned works in the last year,” he says.
We are helping engineering managers and executives to understand and to work really well with the engineers and to drive up productivity
Often, a company with 50-60% of planned work is not in a healthy position, but managers remain unaware of the impending repercussions. Waydev can identify such anomalies in advance.
“This is what we are doing. We are helping engineering managers and executives to understand and to work really well with the engineers and to drive up productivity for these types of companies,” he adds.
The Indian IT industry is expected to grow to US$ 350 billion by 2025 and BPM is expected to account for US$ 50 55 billion of the total revenue. As India gears up for this future, her IT companies must ensure a workforce that is well accounted for as well as cared for.

Team sizes are likely to increase even further. With remote working the norm now, team monitoring holds even more significance.
Companies like Waydev can provide that boost required to be on top of things as team sizes increase and Work From Home makes things more complicated. Because happy engineering teams will lead to more efficiency and success.
