Zumbl – An Out-of-the-Box Platform to “Talk” and “Share” with Strangers

In the process of evolution of man, development of one component has been significantly measured – Communication. It has also played a major part in sharing of knowledge and development of mankind as a whole.

Be it on train journeys, coffee shops, hostel rooms or little nostalgic meetings people love to talk. Like how on journeys people land up talking to complete strangers, if the world becomes a common place like a compartment of a train, many strangers might land up having the most interesting and diligent talks. Such is this platform created by Zumbl. The idea is to allow strangers across the world to do the ‘talking’. With the provision of ‘sharing’ too, Zumbl would be any social person’s heaven. The idea has already won recognition with Zumbl winning Samsung Innovation Awards, 2012.

Abhishek Gupta and Saurabh Kumar, the co-founders of Zumbl, along with other enthusiastic IIT friends gave shape to this inherent yet unexpressed urge of minds across the world. Zumbl is an out-of-the-box online chat portal that has many unique features. What makes Zumbl different and better than the present such platforms is it lets users interact with other strangers in a ‘safe environment’ depending on their interests resulting in meaningful conversations. At Zumbl your basic identity i.e your Avatar gets modified as per as the feedback given in form of ‘Tags’, by the person with whom you had a chat. It is like seeing yourself through the eyes of a stranger. Apart from tags, they have a system of badges which reflect your activity on the website.. What makes Zumbl different and better than the present such platforms is it lets users interact with other strangers in a ‘safe environment’ depending on their interests resulting in meaningful conversations. A user can choose to obtain ‘Badges’ based on the interest the person intends to share with others. There are 6 ‘Badges’ named ‘Founder’,’Chattr’,’Taggr’, ‘Networkr’,’Player please’ and ‘Recruitr’. They aim to use ‘sentiment mining’ technology which will  detect one’s mood  by chats and will reflect the same in form of animation in Avatars.Every once in a while the Zumbl gives a ‘Happy hour’ iteration with new themes to ‘talk’ about. People can start talks or share stuff on the theme set in these hours. Sharing as such has been made convenient and fun. It’s the ease of ‘sharing’ that’s unique about Zumbl’s sharing. One needs to just enclose anything they wish to share in  s like and presto! The phrase is indexed and shared immediately. This new way of “talking” and “sharing” anything and everything under the sun seems to break all barriers of communication in the world.

As a start-up they have had mentoring from incubation unit at Ryerson University in Canada. The Co founders have taken an year drop out from the college for devoting their full time and energy to their baby.As most other start-ups the main challenge faced by the team is creating awareness about the product as such. With more technical aid and cloud computing they aim at achieving this. Scalability from a point onwards would not at all be a challenge as put across by Abhishek Gupta. As their idea is a pioneer in new age communication that day isn’t far ahead.
